The increase in the average life expectancy of the population in Portugal goes hand in hand with a decrease in quality of life and health, due to the increase in the prevalence of chronic diseases and the prolongation of the need for care and treatment.
It is estimated that around 25% of the Portuguese population will contract at least 1 type of cancer by the age of 75. The advancement of medicine and diagnostic techniques gives us a feeling of security. All these factors are reflected in a critical increase in treatment expenses, which also affects individual financial availability.
When looking at the ecosystem in general, we must realize that the sustainability of Health and the rational use of its resources is everyone’s responsibility. And we also observe the urgency of acting on prevention, promoting equity, adherence, cooperation and coordination of the various players and sectors, benefiting from the proximity of each entity to its respective community to obtain fundamental behavioral change for each individual.
This session aims to encourage sharing and debate on topics such as Primary Prevention, screening (of colorectal cancer) and public awareness, the importance of research and clinical studies to improve results, greater efficiency and optimization of resources.
