Peter Van Voort

Full Professor School for Business and Society Utrecht

Peter van der Voort is Academic Director of the MHA program and Professor of Health Care at TIAS since 2013. He trained as a doctor at the VU and as an internist-intensivist at the AMC and OLVG. He earned a master’s degree in epidemiology in 2006. He has been Professor of Intensive Care Medicine at the University of Groningen (UG) since 2019 and was head of the adult intensive care unit at the University Medical Center Groningen (UMCG) until September 2023. Prior to this, Peter van der Voort oversaw the intensive care unit of the Medical Center Leeuwarden and that of the OLVG, where he was also a trainer for 10 years. From these positions, he has experience in management of inpatient curative care. He has been chairperson of the Venticare foundation and has been actively involved in the development of telemedicine. He has chaired many committees on quality policy and organization of care. From his work as an intensivist and his broad vision of healthcare, Peter van der Voort has developed the conviction that the organization and management of a department or healthcare institution has at least as much effect on the quality of care as direct substantive care. In addition, he has been a senator for D66 with, among other things, the portfolio of Health, Welfare and Sport, so that he has set out coherent policies at the patient level, the organizational level, and the national political level for the purpose of improving care and its governance. Based on this conviction, he supervises the participants of the MHA and conducts research at the health cluster of TIAS.
