President of the Portuguese Association of Private Hospitalization (APHP). Born in Vagos, Aveiro, married and father of 2 children. Graduated in Economics from the Faculty of Economics of Porto. Postgraduate degree in Public Management from the University of Aveiro. He worked in investment banking and commercial banking, namely at BCP between 1992 and 1997. He was an advisor to the PS Parliamentary Group between 1997 and 1999 and advisor and chief of staff to the Deputy Secretary of State and Budget between 1999 and 2001. Member of the Supervisory Board of the Social Security Capitalization Fund Management Institute and Director of Metro-Mondego, SA between 2001 and 2004. Employee of Iberdrola until March 2005. He was economic advisor to the Prime Minister from 2005 to 2009 and Secretary of State for Health from 2009 to 2011. Between 2011 and September 2014 he was an economic advisor to the Secretary General of the PS. He was Director of External Affairs at MSD – Merck Sharp & Dohme – Portugal until August 2016. President of the board of the Portuguese Association of Private Hospitalization (APHP) since 2016.
